Care of Loved Ones During The Covid-19 Pandemic
Covid-19 has stressed almost every factor of life. As the pandemic rages, many of us feel helpless in
what they could do to comfort and care for a loved one who has been stricken by the virus. In many
cases, family members that were either at risk or in critical condition due to the virus are left alone in
quarantine with an uncertain future.
As humans, we are born with empathy and love for one another. When it comes to your parents, that is
a bond no stronger. As you get older in life and as their children, you want to make sure that your
parents or family members are safe, secure, and comfortable as they did for you when you were a child.
The Corona Virus is plaguing our elderly population. In many cases, without proper care, it is extremely
detrimental to their well being. I find myself now facing this hardship, as my parents are now infected
with Covid-19. As a scientist and medical microbiologist, I understand the risk of contracting the
disease. But, I also know that if we are to find a way to break this cycle of helplessness, I must overcome
fear and go to them, bringing all my knowledge and precautions to the forefront.
I am sharing this journey in hopes that it helps others and shows that, with sensible precautions and
containment measures, we still can be a part of our parent’s life through what may be the most difficult
life experience one can have with an aging loved one.
We cannot forget our elderly or leave them to pass alone.
